What it is football physiotherapy?

Football physiotherapy is for every level of the game. From A-League professionals to the weekend warrior turning out for their local club on a Saturday morning. At Valley Physiotherapy, we bring elite rehabilitation strategies straight from the A-League to the grassroots, giving the local football community access to the same high-level care that professional players receive.

Standard physiotherapy doesn't always cut it for football injuries. Generic rehab can miss the specific movement patterns, loading demands and on-field requirements that determine whether a player truly recovers or finds themselves back on the sideline weeks later. We focus on keeping you on the park, minimising training and game time lost, and building you back stronger than before.

We understand the game. And we use every skill we have to keep you healthy, pain-free and better than before.

Do I need football physiotherapy?

Football-specific physiotherapy may help if you're dealing with a recurring issue or unsure about your return to play. Whether you're playing local NPL, community football or social competitions, the same principles apply.

Many football injuries persist because the underlying strength or load issue hasn't been addressed. A structured rehab plan reduces that uncertainty and lets you progress back to training safely.

Football-specific physiotherapy may be helpful if:

You've had to stop playing due
to
injury

A recurring hamstring, groin or calf issue keeps returning

You're unsure when it's safe to return to training after injury

Pain is limiting sprinting, kicking or change of direction

You want guidance on returning to matches after time away

What does football physiotherapy involve?

Football physiotherapy focuses on understanding the specific physical demands of the sport and the stresses placed on your body during training and match play. From there, we provide clear guidance around rehabilitation exercises, strength targets, and a gradual return-to-training plan.

01

Assess

Lower-limb strength & power using VALD Force Deck testing.

02

Examine

Hip, groin, hamstring & calf strength — key football areas.

03

Evaluate

Change-of-direction mechanics and movement control.

04

Review

Your training load and recent match demands.

05

Identify

Strength deficits or asymmetries contributing to injury.

Our rehabilitation strategies

Every football rehab plan is built around four priorities.

01

Restoring strength and sprint capacity

02

Rebuilding tolerance to football-specific loads

03

Gradually progressing training exposure

04

Reducing the risk of reinjury on return to play

Return to football with confidence.

Football rehabilitation is an area we know well. Clinic Director Murray previously worked as Head Physiotherapist for the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League, where managing player injuries and return-to-play decisions was a core part of the role.

That same approach now shapes how we manage football injuries here in the Hunter.
