Where pro-sport experience
meets everyday rehab.

Valley Physiotherapy was built on a simple mission: to keep people moving with confidence, clarity and structured care.

Our story

Thornton Physiotherapy was founded in 2018 by Murray Leyland, a local physiotherapist who had spent years working in professional sport but wanted to bring that same level of care home.

“I grew up in Thornton. I’ve been playing for the Thornton Redbacks since I was four years old. When I looked around, I saw a growing community of talented athletes, active families and everyday people who deserved better rehabilitation, not quick fixes.”

After years working with elite footballers, Murray stepped away from the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League to open a clinic where the standard of care didn’t drop simply because people weren’t in the centre of Newcastle. Thornton deserved better.

Now, we are expanding that ethos across the Hunter Valley with the formation of Valley Physio. Two state of the art clinics housing purpose built rehabilitation gyms, advanced assessment equipment and a team of APA Titled Physiotherapists.

Our mission is simple: to keep people moving with confidence, clarity and structured care.

Why Choose Us?

01

We Truly Listen & Assess Thoroughly

Every injury has a history, and every person behind it has a story. We take the time to understand both. We look beyond the painful area — considering training load, lifestyle, goals, and contributing factors.

Before we build a plan, we get to know you — not just your symptoms.

02

Knowledge is Power

We explain what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what the next steps are. You’ll leave your first appointment understanding your injury and the path forward.

No confusion. No guesswork.

03

Recover. Rebuild. Return to Your Best.

Fail to plan, plan to fail. Rehabilitation should never be random.

We create structured, progressive programs designed to remove the guesswork from your recovery and rebuild strength and capacity with purpose.

04

We Commit to the Process

Success doesn’t come before work. “The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.” We live by that.

Our therapists go the extra mile — and we’ll ask the same of you. Rehabilitation isn’t always easy, but with a clear plan and the right team beside you, it’s always worth it.

A Message from Murray

If you’ve ever thought:
“I’m not sure physio can help.”
“I’ve tried before and didn’t get the results I hoped for.”

That’s understandable.

Rehabilitation works best when it’s structured, progressive and aligned to your goals.
This clinic was built on a commitment to bring professional sport standards into a local setting — not to treat elite athletes differently, but to apply the same attention to detail to everyone who walks through the door.

Thornton is home for me. Leading this team is both a privilege and a responsibility.
If you’re ready to approach your recovery with clarity and commitment, we’re ready to work with you.
